Negative questions
Vocabulary: Complete the chart with words from the pictures above, and add ideas. Then compare with a partner. Can you use any of these words to describe what you and your classmates are wearing?

When you want or expect someone to agree with you, you can use negative questions to:

Isn’t this jacket great?
Isn’t it a little expensive?
Isn’t it on sale?
Don’t you think it’s great?
Don’t you think is too bright?
Don’t you like it?
Didn’t you just love it?
It’d look good, don’t you think?
Haven’t you bought one?

Rewrite the underlined sentences as negative questions. Then practice with a partner.

Ben:   Look at this one. I think it’s neat.      ___________________________________________
Yoko: Well, I’m not sure about the style. I think it’s a bit boring. ___________________________
Ben:   No, I like it. And it fits perfectly, I think.  ________________________________________
Yoko: Um…maybe it’s a bit tight. __________________________________________________
Ben:   No, it is just right: I’m surprised you don’t like it.   ________________________________ . And anyway, it’s not as expensive. I think I’ll get it!
